THE COLLECTED IMAGE:
PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIOS

October 6, 2018 — August 18, 2019

The Collected Image features selections from six photographic portfolios in the Fitchburg Art Museum’s permanent collection to investigate the production and marketing of photographs in this unique format. A portfolio consists of a group of photographs that are gathered around a singular organizing principle, whether images by a single artist or a subject explored by many.

The exhibition will include Herb Snitzer’s Such Sweet Thunder, a portfolio featuring portraits of iconic jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong or Nina Simone; works from Richard Benson’s Touro Synagogue, documenting the oldest synagogue in the United States; and highlights from The PRC Portfolio by the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) in Boston, which features works from 16 masters of contemporary photography, from Barbara Bosworth to Sage Sohier.
