Education Department Assistant
Job Summary:
The Education Department Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support for all tours, events, projects, and programs through the Education department. The role has an emphasis and specialty focus on administrative communications, event logistics, and organizational aspects of the programs for audiences to serve Fitchburg’s community area schools, community groups and artist organizations.

While the job description outlines general duties and tasks for a specific position, FAM recognizes that at times, individuals will need to assist and support the overall business needs regardless and outside of a specific position or department.
This position requires onsite work three days per week. Evening and weekend work may be required periodically to fulfill museum needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains department calendar to track events, programs, tours, and meeting schedules. • Coordinates and schedules tours with school groups, private groups, and community groups. • Coordinates details of event information including internal deadlines for team and proofing event materials for marketing before publicizing.
- Communicates with participants through confirmations, reminders, and evaluative follow up. • Supports the promotion of educational programs in collaboration with the Manager of Marketing. • Supports the operation of events such as set ups requiring periodic evening and weekend work. • Orders supplies for programs and tracks expenses.
- Maintains database and reports to track event program details, contacts, and mailing lists, as well as compiles evaluative data including participation and feedback.
- Refreshes Learning Lounges with exhibit related educational materials for visitor engagement. • Supports and contributes to program concept, development, curriculum development, and evaluation in collaboration with Education Department staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to move and lift objects and materials up to 30 pounds.
- Mobility to work with program participants in multiple locations in Fitchburg (occasionally.)

- Exceptional administrative and customer service skills.
- Ability to collaborate, take direction, and work independently, including being able to prioritize multiple initiatives at one time.
- Must have excellent communication, writing and data entry skills.
- Must be detail oriented and highly organized.
- Excellent professionalism, public speaking, and interpersonal skills required in a variety of situations. (Interactions with students, educators, teaching artists, volunteers, and the public, and intergenerational groups.)
- Good problem-solving skills and a positive, flexible attitude in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to be a strong team player and to work in collaboration with others internally and externally. • Computer literate (Microsoft Office suite and Altru.)

- Ability to work onsite three days per week.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, etc.):
- 1-2 years of professional administrative experience required.
- Associates Degree or equivalent experience in related field is required.
