This year marks the 13th iteration of FAM’s annual Call and Response collaboration with ArtsWorcester. The exhibition features ten works by ArtsWorcester artists, created in response to ten from FAM’s permanent collection. This year’s theme is Monochrome.
Color is an instrumental tool used by artists to portray mood, light, depth, and emotion. In monochromatic color palettes details are created through texture and line, and revealed in the shadows, demonstrating the versatility of any one color. Colors inspire a range of emotional responses due to their symbolic meanings that vary by culture. As a result, the interpretation of a color is often personal. Ultimately, a restricted color palette does not impede creativity but, in fact, can enhance the emotional impact of an artwork.
Come and see how artists react to one another through their art!
Call and Response: Monochrome is on view until September 7, 2025. This collaboration was organized by Terry and Eva Herndon Assistant Curator Sarah Harper and the exceptional ArtsWorcester team led by Alice Dillon and Juliet Feibel. Featured artists from ArtsWorcester: Thierry Borcy, Leslie Breault, Nathan Fiske, Suzanne Gainer, Timothy Gannon, Nilima Kolli, Jacqueline Lecuyer, Caterina Maina, Alan Morin, and Dawn Naylor.
