ABOUT THE PROPERTY
The Fitchburg Arts Community will provide 68 mixed-income, artist-preference apartments in three former historic municipal buildings. NewVue is converting the former BF Brown Middle School (62 Academy Street), the former City Stables and the former High School Annex (82 Academy Street) into apartments and artist amenities. The project is located across the street from and in partnership with the Fitchburg Art Museum.

The Fitchburg Arts Community will provide a preference to artists: defined as those who are passionate about their art. Artists don’t need to make their living from the arts, but they do need to be serious about it. The Fitchburg Art Museum is committed to working with Fitchburg Arts Community residents to create, nurture, and sustain a creative community in Fitchburg. This partnership will include professional development, cross-programing and marketing,

The Fitchburg Arts Community will have apartments that range in size from studio to three-bedroom units. The apartments will serve tenants with a range of incomes. Our income limits are not yet finalized, they will be broad: generally ranging from 30% to up to 90% of the area median income. The apartments will remain affordable under NewVue’s stewardship.

The Fitchburg Arts Community will have a unique array of artist amenities. For example, the auditorium of the former BF Brown School will be converted into artist working spaces as well as gallery space.

ABOUT FITCHBURG
Fitchburg is a New England mill town on the Nashua River, with 41,000 residents, 50 miles west of Boston at the western terminus of the MBTA Commuter Rail’s Fitchburg Line. The city is the home of Fitchburg State University and is currently in the midst of a downtown renaissance focused on the arts and culture with three major projects underway: the Fitchburg Arts Community, a new city library, and the restoration of the Theater Block. The Fitchburg Arts Community is adjacent to Lowe Park and Longsjo Middle School, and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the YMCA, the Fitchburg Public Library, the Fitchburg Historical Society, the new Theater Block, and City Hall.

ABOUT NEWVUE COMMUNITIES
NewVue has also been involved in building human and community capital to support the bricks and mortar. NewVue’s community steward program encourages resident leadership. One of NewVue’s most successful programs has been its art steward program. Fitchburg has benefited from the addition of beautiful murals, well attended festivals, and performing arts as the art stewards actively participate in turning Fitchburg into an arts and culture destination.

FITCHBURG ART MUSEUM
The mission of the Fitchburg Art Museum is to inspire creativity and learning, and to contribute to the well-being of our diverse communities in Fitchburg, North Central Massachusetts, and New England.

To accomplish this mission, the Museum organizes exhibitions of the work of New England contemporary artists and artworks from its art historical collections, offer programs for learners of all ages, support public art projects, invite community participation and partnerships, and stimulate the creative economy – all in the spirit of inclusivity.
