Fitchburg State University Educational Studies Internships at FAM

The Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM) education department is responsible for connecting the community with the museum resources, and designing experiences that foster creativity, inquiry, and community involvement through art. We work with a variety of audiences to engage them with collection objects, exhibitions, and working artists in the region through artist workshops, after school programs, gallery tours, interactive learning spaces, and more. FAM educators work closely with multiple community partners to craft programs that facilitate equitable access to the arts and sustain the cultural vitality of our region. 

Programming Internship  

Interns will support the planning and implementation of gallery programs and events such as group tours, artist talks, family programs, and workshops. 

Programming interns may assist with:

  • Creating or revising printed resources and promotional materials
  • Scheduling and planning for events and programs 
  • Program registration and other audience communications
  • Materials prep, set up and clean up 
  • Documentation of program and data collection
  • Interpretive gallery materials 
  • Other administrative tasks as needed

Teaching Internship  

Teaching interns will support the preparation and facilitation of programs, such as the after-school program, school tours, and art making workshops. 

Teaching interns may assist with: 

  • Creating learning resources, and activities
  • Teaching the Fitchburg Public Schools after school program at FAM
  • Leading tours and artmaking for groups
  • Designing and leading art activities for events 
  • Materials prep, set up and clean up 
  • Research and literature review of museum teaching practices 
  • Other program preparation tasks as needed

Internship qualifications: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Organized and detail oriented 
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends for special programs
  • Transportation to work on-site
  • Bilingual Spanish-speakers strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of child development and theories of progressive education preferred
  • Knowledge of art history and or studio art preferred

  • You are currently enrolled in Fitchburg State University Education Studies Program 
  • You are curious, eager to learn, and aren’t afraid to ask questions.

HOURS

Wednesdays through Fridays: 12–4pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 11am–5pm
First Thursday of each month: 12–7pm
