YoAhn Han: In Search of Floral Bodies
January 15, 2022-June 5, 2022
In Search of Floral Bodies presents a selection of works by Boston-based artist YoAhn Han. His lyrical compositions enfold themes and influences from his childhood through present-day experiences in deftly layered mixed-media compositions. Synthetic papers are dyed, traced, and extricated by hand. They are then placed within watercolor and gouache paintings and finished with a coating of glossy varnish. Almost imperceptibly, these hand-cut papers adopt the natural and botanical forms of Han’s childhood environment in South Korea. As he considers the dynamics of his multifaceted identity, Han’s floral shapes transform into ethereal figural poses that consider beauty, death, desire, transgression, and being.
